Why a cellar app

A spreadsheet never tells you a wine is about to fade.

Most collections live in a notebook, a camera roll, or a spreadsheet that stopped being accurate two cases ago. They record what you bought. They say nothing about what is ready.

Gioia treats a cellar as something with a clock running on it. Every bottle carries a drinking window, and the bottles approaching the end of theirs come to you — before another year in the dark takes the decision away.

Scan the label, and the bottle is filed

Point the camera at any label. Gioia identifies the wine — producer, vintage, region, grape varieties — and adds it to your cellar with quantity, storage location and what you paid.

No typing, no lookup, no wine database of your own to maintain. A case takes about a minute, and the entry ends up more complete than anything you would enter by hand.

See what your cellar is actually made of

Total value, split by country, region, colour and grape. The shape of a collection is hard to hold in your head once it passes a hundred bottles, and easy to misjudge in either direction.

Useful before you buy again: most cellars turn out to be far deeper in one region, and far thinner in everyday drinking bottles, than their owner expected.

What you buy against what you actually drink

Gioia compares the wines coming in with the wines going out, and shows you the gap. The Barolo you keep buying and never open. The whites you finish faster than you replace them.

It is the difference between a cellar that grows on purpose and one that grows by accident.

Every bottle carries a drinking window

A drinking window is the stretch of years a wine is worth opening. Gioia sets one on every bottle from the vintage, the producer and the style, then tracks where it sits against today.

Bottles moving out of their window surface before they fade. That is the part a list cannot do: you stop finding a wine two years late, and you stop opening the age-worthy ones five years early.

Questions about the cellar

How do I get my existing cellar into the app?

Scan the labels — Gioia identifies each wine from the bottle and fills in vintage, producer, region and grapes, so a case takes about a minute. Already on InVintory? Export your cellar as a CSV and import the whole thing at once: quantity, purchase price and drinking window come across with it. You can also add a bottle by hand.

What is a drinking window?

The range of years a wine is worth opening — early enough that it still has fruit, late enough that the tannins have settled. Gioia sets one on every bottle in your cellar and tells you which bottles are approaching the end of theirs.

Does it track what I paid?

Yes. Each bottle carries its purchase price and quantity, so the cellar view shows what the collection is worth as well as what is in it.

Is the wine cellar app free?

Yes — scanning, your cellar and drinking windows cost nothing on iOS and Android. Detailed cellar insights are part of an optional paid upgrade.

More than a cellar

The cellar is one half of Gioia. The other half is what it learns about your taste, and what it recommends because of it.
