How to Move Your Wine History to Gioia (Without Losing a Thing)

Six years of ratings and four hundred logged bottles shouldn't trap you in an app you've outgrown. Here's how to bring your Vivino or InVintory history into Gioia, including the export delay Vivino doesn't warn you about.

Gioia Team

Maybe you’re not satisfied with the current wine app(s) you use, but you have 400 wine bottles logged in Invintory or six years of ratings in Vivino. The thought of losing that data and starting from square one makes people hesitant to switch to better wine apps.

Good news! You don’t have to worry about this when switching to Gioia. We made it possible for you to import your data from Vivino and InVintory.

Importing from Vivino

Vivino brings across your ratings, your cellar, your wishlist and your scan history. Generous, as exports go. The catch is the retrieval.

1. Open vivino.com in a browser and sign in. Not the app. The Vivino app can't export your data.

2. Settings, then Account Management. Tap your profile picture top right, choose Settings, then the Account management tab.

3. Find "Export your data" and click "Start an export." You'll get a confirmation showing the date and time you requested it, with the status marked In progress.

4. Now wait. Vivino won't tell you when it's ready. No email arrives. The export usually takes several hours and you'll need to refresh the page to see the download link. Set a reminder for later that day.

5. Download the ZIP. When the file is ready, the link appears on that same Account Management page. Save it somewhere your phone can reach.

6. Back in Gioia, tap "Choose Vivino ZIP." Select the file and let it run.

Importing from InVintory

Exporting is quicker than on Vivino because InVintory exports on demand.

1. Open InVintory in a web browser. The app can't export.

2. Go to your cellar and select all the wines.

3. Click Export CSV and choose "Group by label (entire collection)."

Pick that option specifically. It's the format Gioia reads.

4. In Gioia, tap "Select CSV File." Upload it, then choose which cellars to bring across. If you keep several cellars in InVintory you can take some and leave others.

Helpful Hints

Import before you start rating. Your Pourtrait is built from ratings, so bringing your Vivino history over first means Gioia opens with years of signal instead of nothing. The profile is usable immediately rather than after five bottles.

Nothing gets deleted. Importing doesn't touch your Vivino or InVintory account. Run both in parallel for a month if you want to compare.

Partner cellars. If you share a cellar with someone, connect your Partner Cellar in Gioia once the import lands so you're both looking at the same inventory.

Your drinking windows may shift. Gioia takes them from producer and expert estimates, which won't always match what your old app said. Have a scroll through your ready-to-drink list once everything's in.

Switching shouldn't cost you your history. The ratings are what make a match score mean something, and the cellar is what lets Gioia recommend a bottle already sitting on your collection.

Bring it over. Then leave it alone and let the thing work.

Gioia is available now on iOS and Android. Start at gioia.wine.

FAQ

Can I do the Vivino import without a computer?

Yes, you just need a browser rather than the Vivino app. Safari or Chrome on your phone is fine for requesting and downloading.

How long does the Vivino export take?

Usually several hours. No email arrives when it's done, so check the Account Management page yourself.

Does it bring my ratings or only my cellar?

Vivino: ratings, cellar, wishlist, scan history. InVintory: your cellar, bottle by bottle.
